Spring Term 2
This half term, we are continuing our journey through Lent and helping our hearts to grow more like Jesus’. We are trying to fill up buckets of happiness by the things we do and say! Our RE focus has been about what makes a Meal special. We will also be looking closely at how Christians grow spiritually during Lent and about the events during Holy Week and at Easter.
Our learning this half term
Our topic is based around keeping our Super Body healthy. As well as finding out about how to do this, we are reading about superheroes who help others – are superheroes just fictional or are there real-life superheroes?
With an historical focus we explore the lives of people from the past who saved the lives of others;
We will learn about how to keep ourselves healthy and concoct some healthy fruit and vegetable snacks.
In art, we will explore the work of Keith Haring and produce art work in his distinctive style;
We will continue to be Super mathematicians, working confidently with larger numbers and begin to understand the concept of a half and a quarter of an object or number.
As well as all this, we will be developing our super ball skills with Mrs Holmes in PE on Wednesdays; we will keep developing our coding skills in computing and we will be making music with Mrs Floyd on Thursdays.
Supporting learning at home
At home, you can support your child’s learning by setting aside 10 minutes of reading time 3 (or more) times a week where they can read their home reading book to you. Please record when you have done this so it can be stamped and counted – with enough reads, your child can earn a small reward at the end of the half term. Remember to keep reading books to your child as this is such a valuable experience for them!
Children are also encouraged to complete three or more of the homework tasks set for the half term. These can be found in their green homework book.
If you have any further questions or require more information, please do not hesitate to speak to me at the end of the day. Thank you for your continued support!
In Year 1, we are such busy learners! Look at what else we have been up to…
The government have produced some documents which you may find helpful if you have a child in Y2 or Y6. Please do not hesitate to contact us if you are worried about SATs testing. Information_for_parents_-_2018_national_curriculum_tests_at_the_end_of_key_stages_1_and_2 [...]
