Full attendance is essential for all of our children to get the best from school, to build secure friendships and to prepare them for life long learning and success.
Children who do not regularly attend school do not achieve their full potential. Not only do they miss lessons on the day but absence can make it very difficult to catch up as learning is built in sequences. It also means that the child can struggle to maintain strong friendships with other pupils, struggle to build trusting relationships with adults in school and miss opportunities to build memories and cultural capital that are needed for them to be successful. Poor attendance often leads to low self-esteem and a lack of confidence and this slows down learning even more and can affect their mental health.
It is the legal responsibility of parents and carers to ensure pupils attend school every day.
Our lessons start at 8:15 am prompt and the end of the school day is 2:45pm (This is 6 1/2 hours each day – 32 1/2 hours per week)
If your child is absent from school for any reason please notify school before 8:30am, as we are responsible for the safety of all pupils. Where school is not sure of where a child is, we may conduct a home visit. In some cases, we will refer to the Nottinghamshire Missing in Education team.

The school will support you where needed to increase attendance and will contact you if your child’s attendance becomes a concern.
Local councils and schools can use various legal powers if your child is missing school.
You have to apply for permission from the Headteacher if you want to take your child out of school during term time.
You can only do this if:
- you make an application to the Headteacher 4 weeks in advance (as a parent the child normally lives with)
- there are exceptional circumstances
It is the policy of the local authority that only strict exceptional circumstances will be considered. Term-time holidays will not be authorised. You may be fined for taking your child on holiday during term time without the school’s permission. In all relevant cases, the school will apply for a penalty notice as we treat all cases fairly.
