Welcome to Year 6

Mrs J Brennan

Unfortunately, there may be times when children and their families need to self-isolate. Learning that will take place in the classroom will be put on the remote learning page so that children can access the curriculum. Please contact me for any support that you need if your child needs to learn from home.

Children will be set maths homework using ‘Mymaths’ every Thursday. This will link to our learning in our maths lessons.

All children are expected to read for at least twenty minutes a day, five times a week. Reading books will be sent home and activities on Bedrock will support children with this.

Children also have Collins eBooks. Please read the attachment to help support your child with this:

Wider curriculum for this term

Our theme this term is ‘Community’. Through our geography topic about World War II, we will be focusing on the concepts of adversity, discrimination, compassion, fear, influence and power.

Throughout the term, children in Year 6 will have regular philosophy debates to encourage them to question and understand these concepts.

We will start our understanding of these concepts through a philosophy debate. Children will then explore these concepts further through cross-curricular learning.

Please read for at least twenty minutes, five times a week.

We have P.E. on Thursdays and Fridays. Please come into school in your P.E. kit on these days

Online safety

It is important that children continue to understand how to stay safe on the internet. I would like all children to work through the online safety module to keep them safe when accessing the internet.
